MFA
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is an authentication method that requires users to identify themselves with two or more forms of verification when they sign in. Requiring an additional factor for authentication beyond a password significantly reduces the rate of compromised accounts.
To increase security, we recommend that you use MFA in addition to the email address and password SixMap’s authentication service requires during log in.
When you sign in after MFA is enabled, you must provide a unique confirmation code from an authenticator app on your personal device along with your email address and password. When you enable MFA, you receive:
- A six-digit confirmation code on your personal device to confirm your identity.
- A list of backup recovery codes to access your account if you lose your personal device or can't receive confirmation codes.
For organizations that don’t require MFA, individual users decide whether to enable it for their accounts. For admins to enforce MFA for an organization, they must enable it. For more information, see Organization settings.
Use a mobile authenticator to enable MFA
- If necessary, download and install a mobile authenticator app on your personal device.
- Navigate to Profile, Settings.
- For Multi-factor authentication, select the enable option.
- Under Link an authenticator app, use your mobile authenticator to scan the quick response (QR) code.
- Select Next.
- Enter the confirmation code that you receive on your device.
- Under Save backup codes, copy the list of backup recovery codes, then print them and keep them in a safe place. You can use the codes if you lose your device or can’t receive confirmation codes for some other reason.
- Select Done.
Change authenticator app
If necessary, you can remove the authenticator app associated with your profile and add a new one.
- Navigate to Profile, Settings.
- Under Multi-factor authentication, select Delete auth app.
- Select Add authenticator app.
- Under Link an authenticator app, use your mobile authenticator to scan the quick response (QR) code.
- Select Next.
- Enter the confirmation code that you receive on your device.
- Under Save backup codes, copy the new list of codes, then print them and keep them in a safe place.
Access backup codes
To access the backup recovery codes associated with your authenticator app, such as if you need to re-print them, navigate to Profile, Settings. Under Multi-factor authentication, select Get recovery codes.
